Two Sisters Traveling Stash

Today I want to announce the  “Two Sisters” Traveling Stash.

Why this Traveling Stash was born:

About a month ago (June 25th), I won Traveling Stash Box #3.  I have been asked several times when I will be posting the stash giveaway.  To date, I have not yet received it.  The person who had the giveaway contacted me and I sent her my mailing information.  Two weeks later, I asked about it’s status and was told that “she” has been busy with a new job and would mail it the next day.  I sent an email again this week (a month after winning the stash box) and have not received an answer.  All I know, from reading her blog, is that she has a new job and has been too busy to mail several of her commitments. 

So, my sister Ida from "My sister made me do it" and I decided that we want to send a “Traveling Stash Box” out and have decided to fill a new box with goodies that we hope you will like and send it to the winner of this giveaway.  When (if) I ever receive “Traveling Stash Box #3,”  I will, of course,  post the information and have another traveling stash box giveaway.

Some of the goodies in the Two Sisters box:

3 Christmas fat quarters and a package of 6 fabric Christmas ribbons,

7+11 fat quarters

                    

 1 charm pack of 25 cut from my stash from miscellaneous fabrics and 1 pack of 50 postage stamp squares - 2 ½ inch,

1 Book and 5 patterns:  

The Book is "Pinwheel Quilts" by Sara Moe and includes a CD

The patterns include:

1.    Decorator Pillows

2.   Barnyard Animals

3.   Christmas apron, ornaments, and potholders

4.   Baby Bibs

5.   Assorted Bags; messenger bag, backpack, hipster bag, cell phone holder, and change purse

6 yards of fabric from Connecting threads, great for a quilt backing, 

and additional yardage which varies from ½ yard to 1 7/8 yds

6 spools of thread, assorted sizes and colors,

and last but not least, 4 cushion sized panels shown below, 2 equestrian panels, one floral wreath panel and 1 golfer panel:

The usual rules will prevail for “Two Sisters” Traveling Stash:”

RULES:

1.    Be an active blogger. Post about receiving and the giveaway on your blog within a week.

2.   There is a note in the box that logs where the box has been. Please add your info and place the note back in the box.

3.   There is a list of Rules and Guidelines in the box. Please read and follow these and return the list to the box. The box we will use shall be a USPS large Flat Rate Box which ships for $12.95.  If the box you receive is damaged or unusable you can get another one free of charge from the Post Office.

4.   You may take anything you like from the box. Just replace every item with comparable quilt shop quality items equal to the amount taken. See guidelines below.

5.   Ship the box to the next person within 3 days of announcing the winner.

6.   Due to postage constrictions, shipping is only within the USA.

GUIDELINES:
The definition of a stash is a secret store of valuables. For quilters it's a collection of usable quality products. The stash should contain mostly fabric with a few patterns and/or books and other items.

• FABRIC:     Should be quilt shop quality in new condition. Scraps should only be included if they are cut for adding to a collection and packaged accordingly (i.e. I-Spy squares, postage stamp squares, etc.). There should not be anything under a Fat Quarter unless packaged like this.
• PATTERNS/BOOKS:     Should be in new or gently used condition. They should be kept to a minimum (books are bulky and take up space that most of us would rather have for fabric).
• OTHER ITEMS:     Should be in new or gently used condition. Tools, notions, etc. These items should be packaged if necessary.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:

• If you receive a box with anything that is of "poor" condition you should not feel guilty in tossing it out but please do NOT announce that you have done so.  Please just do so quietly.
• Only put items in the box that you would be proud to own. The box is NOT a dumping place for all your outdated unwanted items.
• Items should be free of smoke and pet hairs.
• You must replace items you take with the same quantity of like-kind items. Replacing more than you take is always welcome.  :)  

Ok.  Just let us know in a comment below that you’re ready for us to mail the “Two Sisters Traveling Stash” to you.  You have one week - ends Friday, August 3rd at midnight, MDT.

One-Flower Wednesday at OBX

We're at the beach in Nags Head, North Carolina. We've had some beautiful days and are thoroughly enjoying ourselves. Here's a photo of my husband, our 3 gorgeous grandsons, and me. We went out on this day to shoot skeet.

It's a good thing I prepared my hexie flowers ahead of time because I have done NO sewing at all. Here's what I sewed up before leaving on vacation. My “One Flower Wednesday” flowers, two little 1/2 inch hexie flowers. Thanks, Karen from "Journey of a Quilter" for keeping me on task with my flowers.I've done very little web browsing or reading blogs but I did find a treat giveaway. It's so great that it's worth jumping through a couple of hoops:

Hello from Virginia and My Jane C-13

We arrived in Virginia last night at 10:30 pm. Our plane was delayed because of bad weather somewhere. Anyway, we stayed up until 2:00 am visiting with our son, DIL, and 3 grandsons. Yes, we all stayed up talking, eating, and laughing and enjoying each other's company. Now it's almost 11:00 am EDT and almost everyone is still sleeping. I love summer!

I had written my blog post before leaving and I guess I didn't save it in my Dropbox file because it's not there and I'm starting all over again. Not much to post yet. Oops, one grandson is up so that will probably delay this post for a while.

It's One Flower Wednesday. I'm prepared because I sewed up these little hexie flowers before leaving El Paso. They're flowers I made for my partner in the "Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap." She requested flowers and centers made from "different fabrics."

I also finished one of "My Jane" blocks before leaving. Here is an easy paper-pieced C-13.

The Calm Before the Storm

Encouraging words of the day:

Planning for tomorrow is time well spent; worrying about tomorrow is time wasted. Sometimes it's difficult to tell the difference. Careful planning is thinking ahead about goals, steps, and schedules, and trusting in God's guidance. When done well, planning can help alleviate worry. Worriers, by contrast, are consumed by fear and find it difficult to trust God. They let their plans interfere with their relationship with God.  Don't let worries about tomorrow affect your relationship with God today. 

Ok, things have settled down a little after all of our Independence Day celebrations.  We had a terrific time doing it though.  Now it will be quiet here until Tuesday when we leave to spend two weeks with our oldest son and his family.  That family includes 3 boisterous boys so things will definitely be rowdy for a while.  Meanwhile, here at home during the calm before the storm, I have been working on an I-Spy charity quilt.  I’ve got the top and back together, just need to cut the batting and get the quilting done but here is a photo of my flimsy.

I also finished a table topper for my neighbor at our ranch in the Hill Country.  Mama actually gave me some of the pieced background.  Then I just added the rick-rack trim and the little basket blocks which Mama also gave me.  Then I did the backing and finishing.  Not too bad.

Terrible photo.  I hung the table topper outside on the clothes line and you can see the shadows of the tree on it.  It's actually prettier than it looks :)

I’ve cut out several hexagon shapes so I’ll have some hand-quilting to do while at the beach with my husband and our son’s family - if I have time….  Arrrgggg. Where does the time go.

Independence Day and One-Flower Wednesday

Encouraging words of the day:

Dear Lord,

There is no greater feeling of liberation than to experience this freedom from sin and death that you have provided for me through Jesus Christ. Today my heart and my soul are free to praise you. For this I am very thankful.

On this Independence Day I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that my freedom was purchased with a very high price. My freedom cost others their very lives.

Lord, today, bless those who have served and continue to give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty meet their needs and watch over their families.

Help me to live my life in a way that glorifies you, Lord. Give me the strength to be a blessing in someone else's life today, and grant me the opportunity to lead others into the freedom that can be found in knowing Christ. Amen 

Happy Birthday to the United States of America.  Today is a day of celebration for all Americans.  My husband and I visited our family in New Mexico earlier in the week so have been celebrating Independence Day all week.  I did a little hand-sewing on our road trip to New Mexico and managed to make 3 more tiny little ½ inch hexie flowers.  They are so cute but somewhat difficult to make since they are so small.

Not much sewing going on.  I’m off to continue 4th of July celebrations at our neighbor’s for a cook-out.
