One Flower Wednesday

We're back in El Paso.  It's always nice to be home, no matter how much fun you had while away.  I have gotten back to my sewing machine and am working on a Postage Stamp Quilt.  I'm making it from 2 1/2 inch squares and I'm planning on making each square from a different fabric.  That's lots of squares.  If any of my blogging buddies is interested in swapping 2 1/2 inch squares, please let me know.  I've been cutting lots and lots of these little charms.

My husband and I enjoy shopping at local estate sales and I was really fortunate to run into one of these sales that had available a quilter's stash.  I grabbed that up quickly and rushed home with all the goodies.  Then I got to feeling bad for the "Quilting Lady" whose stash I grabbed.  This being an estate sale, the quilter has either passed away or is in a nursing home and here I am, jubiliantly patting myself on the back over the things she can no longer use.  When I mentioned this to my sister, she made me see things in a better perspective by saying:

"No, that is the wrong attitude.  That Quilting Lady's demise or otherwise would have happened whether anyone benefitted or not.  She would have been happy to know her stash went to someone who will appreciate it."  I think my sister is probably right so I'm back to enjoying the Quilting Lady's stash again. Here's a photo of the stash and I, of course, shared some of it with my sister.  At least I know that when I die, my sister will be getting my stash. 

It's that time again when Karen (at Journey of a Quilter)  organizes us with a linky she provides for us to show off our hexie flowers for  “One Flower Wednesday.”  I continue to sew my 1/2 inch hexie flowers.  I like the idea of those "make-do" flowers where one or two of the petals are of another fabric that is close to the main print but just a little off.  I made my first one on a road trip where I actually lost one of the petals and had to really make-do.  The one today was planned.  Here are my flowers for this week with one make-do.

We're driving back to El Paso as you're reading this. Well, maybe. That is, maybe you're reading this because I've typed this up on Blogsy and scheduled it to post while we're driving back to El Paso so you're only reading this if I did it correctly. On second thought, maybe I should just post it before leaving on our trip at 8:00 am, in which case, you are still reading this. Or not. If you're not reading this, then nevermind but I'm babbling.

One-Flower Wednesday and My Jane I-3 and F-7

We're back in Rocksprings.  Our visit with our son in Keller was 

 wonderful.  Now back at the ranch.  We’ve been hunting feral hogs

and I finally got a shot at some.  There were a couple of BIG sows 

which I shot at and missed.   They had a bunch of little hogs with

 them and I took a shot at one of them and got one.  Can you 

imagine, I missed a big 180 pound hog and then turned around and 

shot a 20 pound baby?  I console myself with the thought that the 

little baby would have grown up into a boar or a sow.  Those sows 

can start reproducing at 6 months and produce a litter every six 

months.  Feral hogs are very destructive in the Texas Hill Country 

and, from what I hear, other parts of the country as well.  They 

destroy property and also harm the whitetail deer population (they 

eat them).  The whitetail deer are VERY scared of the hogs.  

Whenever you see the whitetail deer eating at a feeder, they will 

take off at a run if feral hogs are approaching.  We try to feed and 

nurture all wildlife except for the predators (feral hogs) and receive 

a “Wildlife Exemption” on our property taxes as we supply 

supplemental water, food, and shelter for wildlife. 

I continued sewing ½ inch hexie flowers on the trip to and from 

Keller so I have flowers to show you for “One Flower 

Wednesday.”    Thanks to Karen from  Journey of a Quilter who

Then, since I’ve been back at the ranch, I’ve been sewing a few

Traveling Stash Box #3 Winner

We're in Keller, Texas visiting our youngest son.  We had the most beautiful rain storm last evening.  I hope it did the same at our ranch in the Hill Country.  We had a nice cook-out yesterday as well.  Three of our nephews along with their families enjoyed the afternoon with us.  It was wonderful.

I continued sewing ½ inch hexie flowers on the trip to Keller.  I’m saving them to show you on  “One Flower Wednesday”  so I’ll be ready.  I’ll sew some more up on the way back to the ranch tomorrow.  

What I do have to show you is the image that the Random Number Generator came up with for the winner of the long-delayed “Stash Box #3.”

One-Flower Wednesday and My Jane M-5 in the Hill Country

We're back at our ranch in the Texas Hill Country.  We need rain but it has rained some and is beautiful this time of year.  We've been out hunting feral hogs but have had no luck.  We haven't even seen one yet but we still have time :)

On the trip out, I did my hand-sewing as usual and sewed up my flowers for “One Flower Wednesday.”  I'm still working on my little half-inchers.  Here are three of them.  They are SO cute.

That bottom blue flower had an accident.  I lost one of the little petals so I filled it in with another blue "flowery" petal I had and made my flower on of those "good enough" flowers.

Traveling Stash Box #3

"Traveling Stash Box #3" has finally arrived after almost 7 weeks!  Yes!  And it is full of delightful items.  I've just finished selecting what I want from the box and am ready to get it moving again. Here's a photo of the box, ready to be mailed to the next winner.

Here's a summary of what it holds:

a fat quarter bundle consisting of 7 fat quarters,

26 fat quarters,

11 fabric pieces of different sizes and 4 different panels,

21 patterns, a quilt journal and a variety of different notions,

a cute pin cushion, 

a package of 4-inch Halloween charms,

several 2-inch postage stamp charms,

a 5-inch charm pack,

5-inch I-Spy charms,

and a package of 4-inch charms,

The usual rules apply:

1.       Be an active blogger. Post about receiving and the giveaway on your blog within a week.

2.     There is a note in the box that logs where the box has been. Please add your info and place the note back in the box.

3.     There is a list of Rules and Guidelines in the box. Please read and follow these and return the list to the box. The box we will use shall be a USPS large Flat Rate Box which ships for around $14.95. If the box you receive is damaged or unusable you can get another one free of charge from the Post Office.

4.     You may take anything you like from the box. Just replace every item with comparable quilt shop quality items equal to the amount taken. See guidelines below.

5.     Ship the box to the next person within 5 days of announcing the winner.

6.    Due to postage constrictions, shipping is only within the USA.

GUIDELINES:
The definition of a stash is a secret store of valuables. For quilters it's a collection of usable quality products. The stash should contain mostly fabric with a few patterns and/or books and other items.

• FABRIC: Should be quilt shop quality in new condition. Scraps should only be included if they are cut for adding to a collection and packaged accordingly (i.e. I-Spy squares, postage stamp squares, etc.). There should not be anything under a Fat Quarter unless packaged like this.     
• PATTERNS/BOOKS: Should be in new or gently used condition. They should be kept to a minimum (books are bulky and take up space that most of us would rather have for fabric).
• OTHER ITEMS: Should be in new or gently used condition. Tools, notions, etc. These items should be packaged if necessary.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:

• If you receive a box with anything that is of "poor" condition you should not feel guilty in tossing it out but please do NOT announce that you have done so. Please just do so quietly.
• Only put items in the box that you would be proud to own. The box is NOT a dumping place for all your outdated unwanted items.
• Items should be free of smoke and pet hairs.
• You must replace items you take with the same quantity of like-kind items. Replacing more than you take is always welcome. :)

All you have to do to win this stash box is leave a comment below. You have until midnight August 18th, Central-Daylight-Time. The winner will be announced on August 19th and the box will be mailed as soon as I get the winner's address. Good luck.
