One Flower Wednesday and My Jane B-10 and K-8

Encouraging Words of the Day:

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. ~ Psalm 118:24, NLT

We're still in the Texas Hill Country. Our daughter and her family came up to hunt so we've been busy with them. I did no blogging while she was here. Now they've returned to Califonia and I'm back with my post for "One-Flower Wednesday." We live 11 miles from the bustling metropolis of Rocksprings, Texas, population 1,285 (1,287 when my husband and I are here.) So, I do some hand-stitching while we drive into town and here are the miscellaneous flowers I've made.

Click on “One Flower Wednesday” to see flowers others have made.

I've also been working on "My Jane." Here are two completed blocks.

B-10 looks really crooked but it's not as bad as it looks in the photo. See how the little print designs are really straight on the left side. The camera, somehow, distorted it and made it look really crooked. Alright, the little piece in the middle is crooked but the rest isn't.

B-10

And K-8 looks really good. I'm happy with it.

K-8

I'm determined to continue with "My Jane" and get these blocks done. If I complete one a week I'm happy. Well, at this point, if I don't complete one a week, I'm still happy :)

That is all.

Lovely Gift Received on One Flower Wednesday

Encouraging Words of the Day:
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
~ Psalm 106:1, NLT

It’s “One-Flower Wednesday!”  We’re at the ranch in the Texas Hill Country. As usual, I was able to do a lot of hand-sewing while my husband drove.  Here are 3 little blue flowers I finished.

Remember, to see more flowers, you can check the linky Karen provides for us each week at "One Flower Wednesday" to see flowers others have made.

We drove into town today and there was a wonderful surprise waiting for me at the post office.  I won a giveaway hosted by Hilary at “Quilary - Take a Peek Over the Fence.” Hilary hosted this giveaway for “Blogtoberfest” and notified me that I’d won on November 2, 2012.  Well, at that time I was here at the ranch so I gave her this address.  It had not arrived when I left at the end of November but it was waiting for me to pick it up today and it is a marvelous gift.  Take a look at this lovely sewing kit.

Thanks so much, Hilary.  I am already stuffing it with the materials I need for sewing my hexies. The second photo came out upside-down but it looks wonderful rightside up as well.

That is all.

Week 3 Stash Report and My Jane K-5 and J-12

Encouraging Words of the Day:

We spent the weekend in New Mexico visiting my parents and family. Of course we had a wonderful time.  On the trip out, I was able to finish the applique on two of "My Jane" blocks. I now have 132 of 225 blocks completed. The applique on K-5 was difficult because the pieces are so small.

 K-5

J-12 tricked me.  Most of it was paper-pieced and that was easy.  I thought the basket handle would be a "piece of cake" but I was wrong. It was hard to sew down the curved parts of the handle but finally...

 J-12

Also finished was another Hexathon block.  Here is #7 of that series.  I now have 16 block of 52 done.

And finally, here is my  Week #3 Stash Report. I've  been working on another UFO and have used 3.25 yards on it this week.

Used this Week:         3.25 yards
Used year to Date:     12.75 yards
Added this Week:       0 yards
Added Year to Date:   0 yards
Net Used for 2013:     12.75 yard

Flowers, Flowers for One Flower Wednesday

Encouraging Words of the Day:

For the Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. ~ Proverbs 2:6, NLT

Today has completely gotten away from me but it's still "One Flower Wednesday" in Texas and I have flowers to show you.

First are these two cute little flowers...

And these two larger flowers I made for Jane who kept us organized for several years at the "Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap." As a thank you and going away gift, I made these flowers...

It's amazing how some things just pop out at you after you take a photo. I hope Jane will still like these flowers even though 2 of the petals in each one kind of do a pop-out in-your-face kind of thing.

You can check the linky Karen provides for us each week at "One Flower Wednesday" to see flowers others have made.

That is all.

Penny Haren's Pieced Applique Quilt Finished and a Stash Report

Encouraging Words of the Day:

I'm not making New Year's resolutions but I am going to try to use up more fabric in my stash and make a dent in my list of UFOs. To that end, I've joined Carrie's "Nothing but UFOs in 2013" and the Stash Report that Judy hosts at "Patchwork Times."

Well, I've also been working on the Penny Haren's "Pieced Applique, Intricate Bocks Made Easy" quilt which I started in a quilt-along in January 2011 and I'm happy to say that I've finally finished this UFO, 2 years later. I didn't add the fabric which composed the blocks since those were made in a 2-year time frame. What I did in order to finish was the backing and borders for a total of 4.5 yards used. Finally, here's my finished 60" x 60" quilt. All those little blocks are applique.

Stash Report:

Used this Week:4.5 yards

Used year to Date: 9.5 yards

Added this Week: 0 yards

Added Year to Date: 0 yards

Net Used for 2013:9.5 yard

Check "Patchwork Times" to see other stash reports.

That is all.

One Flower Wednesday and My Jane D-1

Encouraging Words of the Day:

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. ~ Ephesians 2:10, NLT

Today I'm doing boring things like preparing an Annual Report for our ranch. We have to turn this in each year in order to keep our exemption for "Wildlife Management." I was sort of busy working on this report when I realized that it's One-Flower Wednesday, for crying out loud. I immediately took a break and came to write my blog post for the day. I made three little flowes for "One-Flower Wednesday," one of my favorite days.

You're able to see more hexie flowers at the linky Karen at "Journey of a Quilter" provides for us each week for "One-Flower Wednesday."

I also made another block for "My Jane." This one was much, much easier compared to M-3 which I made last week. This was fast paper-piecing. Well, fast if you pay attention to what you're doing and sew the little pieces together correctly.... Anyway, with a little sewing and un-sewing, I got it done.

Now back to the drawing board or whatever.

That is all.

My Jane M-3 and Week 1 Stash Report

Encouraging Words of the Day:

So far I haven't worked on any of the 3 UFOs I said I would work on this month. There's plenty of time, right? So what I did instead is finish 2 mug rugs and the top of my mini-quilt. Then I decided that My Jane had been neglected for long enough so I spent most of yesterday doing prep work so I can get back to sewing My Jane blocks. I did the prep work for 23 blocks, trying to catch up to "Aunt Reen" who prepares the most marvelous tutorials for each block. I just can't seem to keep up. Anyway, I took out my rotary cutter and cut and cut till I got 23 of those blocks prepped. Now I'm ready to start sewing a few, not forgetting to work on my UFOs....

The block I completed last evening was completed using the English Paper-Piecing method where you sew your pieces around little cardboard forms. This block was so hard because the pieces are so small but Aunt Reen's method didn't look any easier. Anyway, it took me all evening but I finally got it done and it came out pretty so I'm happy.

M-3

In an effort to start using fabric from my stash instead of buying more, I have joined Judy Laquidara's Stash Report linky at "Patchwork Times." The linky is provided each Sunday so you can keep up with the amount of fabric you've used or bought each week. I guess one has to estimate the amount of fabric used sometimes like wih my prep for 23 of My Jane blocks. I estimated that a fat eighth of fabric was used for each block, then with my two completed mug rugs and mini quilt flimsy, my estimate for this week:

Used this Week: 5 yards

Used year to Date: 5 yards

Added this Week: 0 yards

Added Year to Date: 0 yard

Net Used for 2013: 5 yards

That is all.

Finishing UFOs...a plan

Encouraging Words of the Day:

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. ~ Ephesians 2:10, NLT

I'm not making New Year's resolutions but I am going to try to use up more fabric in my stash and make a dent in my list of UFOs. To that end, I have decided to join Carrie's "Nothing but UFOs in 2013" group.

I know that I'll be starting new projects but I'll try to finish some UFOs as I create new ones.

First on my UFO list is the "Penny Haren Pieced Applique" which I've been working on for a couple of years and can't seem to get finished. I have completed the blocks and sashing. Now I need to sew the borders on and get it quilted. I have the backing and borders ready to go so maybe I'll really finally finish this.

Then, I have this little Christmas mini quilt which I wanted to finish in December 2011, then December 2012. Maybe I'll finally finish it for December 2013. I have the sashing, borders and quilting to do but it's a mini quilt, for crying out loud and I've already done the hard part by completing all the blocks. Yes, I posted the photo upside down...

And third, is this bed runner I wanted to complete for my Mother for this Christmas. Well, as you can see, it didn't get done. Maybe I can complete it by Mother's Day. I need the borders and some flowers I want to applique. I've already cut the flowers out with my Baby Go and my sister's flower die so this should go quickly.

Now to get started and really finish something.

That is all.

Happy New Year Wishes on One-Flower Wednesday

My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises! ~ Psalm 57:7, NLT

Well, Christmas is over and I haven't blogged since Dec 22. For that matter, not only is Christmas over but the new year has begun. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas surrounded by family and friends. A large group of our family was able to get together this year. What a blessing to be able to enjoy the holidays with those we love but what a relief it is to get back to our normal every-day lives, right? I've been lazy, completely enjoying the holidays and haven't sewn much. We took a road trip to my parents' home in New Mexico and I was able to sew my hexie flowers so I have this to show you for "One-Flower Wednesday," one of my favorite days.

You're able to see more hexie flowers at the linky Karen at "Journey of a Quilter" provides for us each week for "One-Flower Wednesday."

Over the holidays I received a lovely package from Mhairi who lives in Australia. She was my recent swap partner for "Rugs With Friends" and sent me these lovely gifts.

Thanks, Mhairi, for the lovely mug rug, interesting quilting and crafting magazine, and a beautiful little purse with tea bags in it. I think it's a perfect little bag for carrying my hexies-in-progress. It will hold my fabric, little hexie papers, needle and thread. Thanks, Mhairi. Everything is just perfect for me.

I was able to finally get my sewing room cleared of wrapping paper clutter and sat at my sewing machine for a couple of hours. I finished 2 mug rugs and the top of my mini quilt for the "It's a Mini Quilt-Along" group. It's called "Criss Cross Applesauce."

I'm so glad I joined this group since it does challenge me. I have the habit of deciding something looks easy and then finding out that it probably is easy if I would slow down and follow the directions. I was unable to make a few of my corners match-up but...

Wishing all of you a Happy 2013!

That is all.
