Cold One Flower Wednesday - 882 more flowers needed

Encouraging Words of the Day:

For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. ~ Jeremiah 29:11, NLT

It's "One-Flower Wednesday" and I am managing to post my flowers on time today. We traveled to our little ranch last week and it was SO cold that we barely managed to put feed out for our whitetail deer. It got down to 23 degrees and that is in Texas, for crying out loud. So we packed up and drove back to El Paso after spending just 5 days there. It's barely a little warmer here. I sound "all whiney and cry babyish," I know, since so many of you are under snow and really cold weather. Where are you spring? I'm definitely ready for you.

I had these gorgeous flowers waiting for me in the mailbox when I got back. They're from my partner for January in the "Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap." All the way from Rosalie in Australia:

I asked for "surprise" flowers and Rosalie came through like a champ and sent not only the 2 flowers required, but 3! I especially like the flower made up of fabric with pictures of hexie flowers. Rosalie also made a little refrigerator magnet out of one of the hexie patterns and included a bookmark made by her friend. What a lovely surprise. Thanks so much.

And now for the flowers I sewed this week?

These brings my total up to 173 flowers. Are you wondering how many I'll need to make a quilt? Well, my friend Josie from "Insanity Defense" suggested I go to Cd Designs to find out. Thanks, Josie. I found out that for a queen size quilt I'll need 7,391 hexagons. Well, divide that by 7 hexagons per flowers and that comes to 1,056 half-inch flowers, minus the 173 I have completed = 882 more flowers needed. Maybe I should consider a double bed sized quilt? Nevertheless, I guess I better get back to sewing more flowers so for now...

One Flower Wednesday on Thursday

Encouraging Words of the Day:

But Lord, be merciful to us, for we have waited for you. Be our strong arm each day and our salvation in times of trouble. ~ Isaiah 33:2, NLT

Where does the time go? Here I am ready to post my flowers for "One-Flower Wednesday" and I learn that it is Thursday. Again. My "One-Flower Wednesday" is becoming "One-Flower Thursday" lately. Well, we did drive to our little ranch in the Texas Hill Country yesterday and I sewed some flowers on the way and I just never realized that it was Wednesday. Good thing is that I have these flowers to show you:

I now have 170 flowers. That sounds like a lot until you realize that these flowers are 1/2-inch flowers and it will probably be a lifetime project to ever get enough flowers to make a quilt. Maybe I can figure out how many I'll need by using my new EQ7 software. Of course that takes away from sewing time but I want to learn how to use the software too. And I have been working on it, just not with little hexie flowers yet. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Good Night, Irene

Encouraging Words of the Day:

The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? ~ Psalm 118:6, NLT

I've been working on my latest project, the project that has my name on it. The "Good-night, Irene" quilt" is being hosted by Terry from "Terry's Treasures" and is made up largely of 2.5 inch squares. I've made a good start and have this to show you:

I have a pile of 2.5 inch charms so I'm still happily sewing away creating my scrappy quilt. These little squares make great "starters and enders" as I'm sewing on other projects so I like that part of it as well. Ok, then, until Wednesday...

...that is all.

One Flower Wednesday

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. ~ Isaiah 41:10, NL

Yep. "One-Flower Wednesday" again and here I am with three little half-inchers.

I've also made two hexie fowers for my partner in the "Inchy-Hexagon Flower Swap." She requested "surprise" flowers so this is what I came up with. I hope she'll like them.

Don't even think of asking what I've been up to. It seems like January is such a busy month so I've just been dealing with January and it's only half-way done. Oh yes, I almost forgot to tell you that I've splurged and bought "Electric Quilt 7" so playing with that is probably what will dominate the rest of January, well the rest of my time.

That is all.

Better late than never on One Flower Wednesday

Encouraging Words for a Happy New Year:

Dear Lord, Help me to keep my heart set on you. Show yourself to me in every thing I encounter in my life. Give me wisdom to know how to make wise choices. Give me a willing heart to follow through with the choices and the strength to withstand any obstacles that come up. Thank you for walking with me moment by moment. I pray to become more and more like you every day. In Jesus name. Amen

Happy New Year! I'm back blogging and sewing after hectic, happy, exhausting, memorable Christmas and New Year celebrations. And for my first post of the year I present 3 little flowers for "One-Flower Wednesday." What's that you say? Not only has it been Wednesday all day, but it's almost Thursday. And here I am saying that I'm going to be more consistent about blogging and I'm already running behind. Anyway, these hexie flowers were not recently sewn but were done while on a road trip to somewhere.

In my mailbox, I found these pretty hexie flowers from my partner Celine in the "Inchy-Hexagon Flower Swap" sent to my all the way from the UK.

Thanks, Celine. They're perfect for my "Friends of the World Garden."

One of the things I'm planning to do this year is use up more of my stash fabric and finish up more UFOs. I know you're not impressed because that's "pretty much" what all of us who quilt start out planning to do for the new year. None-the-less, in order to use up one's stash, one must start new projects. So, yes, I'm already planning to create another UFO rather than finishing one. The new project I'm starting is using up a pile of 2 1/2-inch squares I have. The project is called the "Good-night, Irene" quilt so what better reason to start working on this quilt, my actual name being Irene and not really "Hilachas." Terry from "Terry's Treasures" is hosting the "Good-night, Irene Quilt-Along 2014."

So I've been happily sewing little squares together and hope to have something to show you soon but for now,

that is all.
