Piece Yourself Together Tuesday in California

Encouraging Words of the Day:

This post finds me in California. We're visiting our daughter and family for two weeks. I haven't had a lot of sewing time, what with football games and other fun times, but I did sew my hexies before we came to California so I do have something for the Linky Party at Anthea's "Piece Yourself Together."
As usual, I'm trying to make the Australian deadline. Those time changes always have me playing "catch-up" with this linky. But anyway, here's what I have to show you today:
I also finished flowers for my swap partner on the "Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap." She requested blue flowers with yellow centers. I'm pleased with the results and hope she will be too. That color combination should make a beautiful quilt when finished.

That is all..

Piecing Myself Together and Pincushion Parade

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Once again its Anthea's "Piece Yourself Together" time. Anthea provides a linky at "Hibiscus Stitches" for us to show off our hexie creations.
What I started doing lately is sewing stepping stones around my little 1/2-inch hexie flowers and then sewing them together. Here's what I have so far.
That's as far as I've gotten since I've been making pincushions (well I've made one pincushion...well, I've finished a UFO pincushion I've had for a long time.) Anyway, I finished the pincushion shown in the previous post, for my sister, Ida, who blogs at "MySister Made Me Do It," and is hosting the "Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade." Ida is providing a linky for us all to share our favourite pincushions.

Not only that, BUT there are lots of prizes! Check out her blog for all the details and to link-up. Wednesday is the last day to link-up. Good luck. Can't wait to see your pretty pincushions.
That is all.

Pincushion Completed for the Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade

Encouraging Words of the Day:

So, I'm sure you've heard that my sister Ida, who blogs at "MySister Made Me Do It," is hosting the "Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade."

In doing so, Ida has created a number of new pincushions to give to you and to ME! She surprised me with 2 more beautiful and functional pincushions. Here's the perfect pincushion nestled in a sewing kit and perfect to drop into my purse and take with me wherever I go along with my hexies.
Ida is so creative. She made this darling sewing kit from an eyeglass case. And then she continued and made another take-along pincushion which is flat with the pins stuck in the sides. It's hard to describe but just look! It's another perfect pincushion to take with me.

So, with all this pincushion-making I decided to dig out a pincushion UFO I've had for a long time. It's made of wool pieces that I sewed together and embroidered on one of our road trips and never finished. Well, here it is, all finally done!
This is for Ida. It's not as awesome as her beautiful creations but maybe she'll like it.
Ida is providing a linky for us all to share our favourite pincushions. Not only that, BUT there are lots of prizes! Check out her blog for all the details and to link up.
That is all.

Pincushion Parade and Prizes

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Today I have pincushions to show. This all came about because my sister Ida, who blogs at "MySister Made Me Do It," is hosting the "Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade." Ida is providing a linky for us all to share our favourite pincushions. Not only that, BUT there are lots of prizes! Check out her blog for all the details and to link-up.

Meanwhile, I'll show you my pincushions. I'm disqualifying myself (before Ida does) since, well, you know, it doesn't seem right if I were to win...

PLUS, Ida has already given me so many gorgeous pincushions, such as this one which I've photographed on it's side so you can see it's a pincushion on a frame. It stands up like a regular picture frame and is ideal for sitting on my end table while I do some hand-sewing as I watch television.

And then there are these 3 which are perfect, each in it's own way and also made for me by Ida:
They all look good enough to eat but I especially like the one in the middle because the pincushion top lifts up and reveals a perfect little container for my thread clippings (hilachas).
But my all-time favorite made by Ida is this one:
It's a little jar where I keep my unique buttons. The pincushion part has fabric with pictures of Sunbonnet Sue and is just precious.
Last, here are some pincushions I've made.
Most of you know how I enjoy sewing with hexie shapes. The ball is made of hexies and pentagons. It took me a while to learn that a ball can't be made entirely of hexies. I had to actually dig up my son's old soccer ball to see the shapes it was made from. The pincushion to the right of the ball is made entirelly of hexie shapes. I found the pattern online for the cathedral window pincushion and the little bitty one is one I use in my travel sewing kit. Which, by the way, I would love to have the pincushion kit Ida made from the eyeglass holder. It looks perfect for travel but how could I possibly ask Ida for another pincushion after she's already made so many for me?
I'd love to see some of your pincushions and if you'd like to be part of the fun, just pop over HERE for all the details & to link up. There are even great prizes to win. Join in or just take a look at the other pin cushions in the parade.
That is all.
