I sewed the 12 crazy quilt squares and then put them away. I had three growing children who were occupying all my time. I love being a mother and preferred to devote my time to them. Then they grew up and left home. That’s also a good thing, right? Don’t we raise them all those years so they can grow up, become independent, and leave us? Anyway, back to the crazy quilt - I would periodically dig out my squares and embroider something on them, then back in storage. When my husband and I started taking more road trips, I again dug them out and continued with the embroidery. Finally finished them and sewed the top together. Back in storage because I couldn’t decide what to use for a backing. Then I won a giveaway held by Julie at "My Quilt Diary." What I won was a panel of a "matoi" showing the standard and happy coat of firefighters during the Edo period. It turned out to be perfect for the back of my crazy quilt and now it is FINISHED after 20 years.</font></p> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-T8Sx8j4mSno/UZlOWOM7kGI/AAAAAAAAC1k/sEmezJX1MZo/s629/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A51%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-T8Sx8j4mSno/UZlOWOM7kGI/AAAAAAAAC1k/sEmezJX1MZo/s500/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A51%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1369001833852.2678" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="476" height="629"></a></div> <p><font size="5">The following are close-ups of the blocks showing the embroidery:</font></p> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-K6lLg1l2jlk/UZlOXlSRUcI/AAAAAAAAC1s/xJI--l5cil8/s456/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A52%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-K6lLg1l2jlk/UZlOXlSRUcI/AAAAAAAAC1s/xJI--l5cil8/s456/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A52%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1369001833876.4995" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="456" height="455"></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-aN4BVN1Bgzc/UZlOaDHMTaI/AAAAAAAAC18/XdJ61ID_zvA/s474/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A53%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8IrpNYIqdBk/UZlOY8g3ZJI/AAAAAAAAC10/MECq3subYU0/s451/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A52%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8IrpNYIqdBk/UZlOY8g3ZJI/AAAAAAAAC10/MECq3subYU0/s451/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A52%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1369001833898.5745" class="alignnone" alt="" width="449" height="451"></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-K6lLg1l2jlk/UZlOXlSRUcI/AAAAAAAAC1s/xJI--l5cil8/s456/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A52%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-aN4BVN1Bgzc/UZlOaDHMTaI/AAAAAAAAC18/XdJ61ID_zvA/s474/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A53%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-aN4BVN1Bgzc/UZlOaDHMTaI/AAAAAAAAC18/XdJ61ID_zvA/s474/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A53%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1369001833931.9668" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="461" height="474"></a></div> <p><span style="font-size: x-large; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); ">This photo show the interesting Japanese "matoi" panel.</span></p> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-I2CATezxR8k/UZlObRPm_SI/AAAAAAAAC2E/J4n3UmRNTto/s566/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A50%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-I2CATezxR8k/UZlObRPm_SI/AAAAAAAAC2E/J4n3UmRNTto/s500/Photo%252520May%25252019%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525203%25253A50%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1369001833862.4128" class="aligncenter" width="439" height="566" alt=""></a></div> <p><span style="font-size: x-large; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); "><br></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: x-large; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); ">This quilt was begun in 1982 and finished in March, 2012. Yes, I have a design wall with UFOs hanging on it too. I'm determined to finish at least one of them while we're here this time. One is a mini quilt depicting the 12 months of the year. That's almost finished. It needs the 3 Bs - borders, backing and binding. The other is a tablecloth showing different items found in and around our ranch house; oak trees, ATVs, hogs, deer, and wildflowers. This is the center part of a future tablecloth or tabletopper.</font></p> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kc8yd4iUoDs/UX7j1quVdjI/AAAAAAAACxs/R0r7DVOCxok/s678/Photo%252520Apr%25252029%25252C%2525202013%25252C%25252010%25253A40%252520AM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kc8yd4iUoDs/UX7j1quVdjI/AAAAAAAACxs/R0r7DVOCxok/s500/Photo%252520Apr%25252029%25252C%2525202013%25252C%25252010%25253A40%252520AM.jpg" id="blogsy-1367270588840.4363" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="385" alt=""></a></div> <p><font size="5">Go <a href="http://www.patchworktimes.com/2013/04/29/design-wall-april-29-2013/" target="_self" title="">HERE</a> to view what others have on their design walls.</font></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><font size="5">That is all.</font></p> <p>&nbsp;</p><div style="text-align: right; font-size: small; clear: both;" id="blogsy_footer"><a href="http://blogsyapp.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://blogsyapp.com/images/blogsy_footer_icon.png" alt="Posted with Blogsy" style="vertical-align: middle; margin-right: 5px;" width="20" height="20" />Posted with Blogsy</a></div>Hilachashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13576276299330023752noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5346540224780371561.post-57291158652045767572013-04-24T15:57:00.001-06:002013-04-24T15:57:21.899-06:00One Flower Wednesday and My Jane F10 and H11<p><font size="5"> Encouraging Words of the Day:</font></p> <p><font size="5">May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. </font><font size="4">~ Psalm 19:14, NLT </font></p> <p><font size="5"><br></font></p> <p><font size="5">Once again we find ourselves at "<a href="http://journeyofaquilter.blogspot.com/2000/06/sign-in-sheet-for-june-9-2010.html" target="_self" title="">One-Flower Wednesday."</a> The flowers I'm showing you today have a different look since I'm making them for a block in a quilt-along I've joined. I've cut out all the hexie shapes to complete the chevron and also the shapes for a couple of hexathons I hope to finish. There's also a crochet project I've been working on that I can take and then...there's always a lot of hand-sewing I can do. I'm thinking of starting a Baltimore Album Quilt. Somebody please talk me out of this since I want to complete "My Jane" some day. Oh, which reminds me, here are a couple of "My Jane" blocks that are finished. We need our magnifying glass to start looking for a clue. I started working on my Nancy Drew project in the early part of February, with hearts in my mind. I found an easy and pretty pattern for a "Log Cabin Heart" and started there with my Nancy Drew and other matching fabrics. The Nancy Drew fabric was full of ideas. Of course, the first part was to grab the magnifying glass.</span><br /><span style="font-size: large;">Well, you can find magnifying glasses in two places and, of course Nancy Drew follows the clues until she finds a little heart somewhere. By now everyone knows how I love "hexies." Well, recently I ran into a Quilting Bee called "Get Your Hex On #3." Two Bees are already completely filled and well on their way to creating hexie treasures. Bee #3 is just getting started and I'm the first Queen Bee. I found his interesting wall hanging called "The Flower Ball<span style="font-size: large;">,</span>" by Geta Grama, Copyright 2012.</span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Ja_A_ji5PgQ/UT6gHvNj_oI/AAAAAAAACqY/YIsNNhzXmts/s538/Photo%252520Mar%25252011%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525209%25253A21%252520PM.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="" class="aligncenter" height="538" id="blogsy-1363058903448.2512" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Ja_A_ji5PgQ/UT6gHvNj_oI/AAAAAAAACqY/YIsNNhzXmts/s500/Photo%252520Mar%25252011%25252C%2525202013%25252C%2525209%25253A21%252520PM.jpg" width="478" /></a></div><span style="font-size: x-large; text-align: center;">I think it's gorgeous. It's not made up of perfect hexie shapes but rather odd-shaped hexies in order to give the ball it's 3-D look. I divided the ball up into hexie flowers with a few cream-colored hexies around it. Each member of the Bee, including myself, will sew up a group which I will later sew together to form the ball. I'm planning on one day finishing a traditional "Grandmother's Flower Garden" quilt made up entirely of 1/2-inch hexies. I haven't even begun to figure out how many little flowers that will take.
