Take heed...

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind. And, love your neighbor as yourself. ~ Luke 10:27, NLT

Take heed.
I’ve been sewing like mad trying to catch up with "Aunt Reen's" Dear Jane tutorial.  We're supposed to finish in 13 months.  Well, I started in May of 2011, and that's not going to happen for me but I'd like to at least keep up with Aunt Reen.  I don't think that's going to happen either.  One of the reasons is because I made 6 blocks the wrong size.  The software automatically sizes the blocks at 4.5 x 4.5 inches.  So, I made 6 triangle blocks that size before remembering that "Aunt Reen" reminds us over and over that triangle blocks need to be re-sized to 5 x 8 inches.  So, here's some of what I've done....

TR-1, TR-2, TR-3 RS-9, BR-1, and BR-13 have all been done at both sizes.  I guess I can use the wrong-sized blocks in some other project like "My Jane Potholders" or "My Jane Mug Rugs."  Anyway, here's what I've done lately while I've been "spinning my wheels" so to speak.

One Flower Wednesday and Blog Hop Winner

Encouraging Words of the Day:
You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. ~ Psalm 92:4, NLT

Since Monday was a holiday, it seemed like Sunday and today seems like Tuesday when it is actually “One Flower Wednesday,” that day of the week when Karen from “Journey of a Quilter” provides a linky for us to share our flowers with you.  Here are three of my little flowers.  I made another “make-do” flower.  See if you can figure out which one it is.

I also have a winner for my giveaway on the Quilting Gallery’s Blog Hop.  The charm pack, thread, and hexie shapes go to

Dresden Challenge Entry

Encouraging Words of the Day:
You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. ~ Psalm 92:4, NLT

I finally finished my quilt for the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild’s Dresden Challenge. And yes, I had all sorts of time to do since I heard about it in May or so but I had all the time in the world.  After all, September was a long way off.  Well, I finished my quilt today and I’m calling it the “Dresden of a 100 Hundred Errors.”  I’m not a strong proponent of perfect and you’ll see that as we go along.  I say that only God is perfect and the rest of us….
This first part is not an error.  My Mother loves soap operas and began cutting out the Dresden Plate pieces as she watched her soap operas.  Well, Mama got carried away and cut and cut and cut.  I do have the “Easy Dresden Ruler” but she prefers her cardboard template.

Anyway, Mama made a Dresden Plate Quilt, I made a Dresden Plate Quilt last year, my sister started a Dresden Plate Quilt, and there were still pieces left over.  So I decided to enter the “Dresden Challenge” and continue using the pieces Mama cut out.  This quilt has 20 plates, most having 20 pieces and the center.  That’s one of the errors, 2 plates have 21 pieces and the center (I don’t know.)  By the way, there are still pieces left over.
I cut out my white squares (too small) so I decided to go with it since I was running out of time.  I appliquéd my plates overlapping the white squares.  It looks pretty good.  There are a few puckers here and there to add character.  I like the traditional quilt patterns so I went with the plain Dresden Plate, although my sister says that overlapping the white square is not really traditional.
After all the disclaimers, here it is.

You can't really see much difference from the blocks with 20 or 21, right?

That is all.

Beautiful Ranch House on First Day of September

Encouraging Words of the Day:
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. ~ Psalm 9:10, NLT

What?  I can’t believe that I typed my whole blog post and went off to do something, returned, and it’s gone.  No, I didn’t save it.  What a  rookie thing to do.  So here I am writing it again.  It’s a beautiful Saturday in El Paso on this first day of September.  My husband and I hit a few estate and garage sales today but didn’t have the luck we had last weekend.  The most exciting thing I bought was a book about monsters and nerds for our grandson.

I’ve really done quite a bit of organizing, cutting, and actual sewing this week.  We spent some time going through the mail that had accumulated while we were gone and I had a wonderful package from Kris, my “Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap” partner for August.  Kris from “Lavendar Quilts” held a giveaway in July.  She was giving several patterns where one could win the pattern of one’s choice.  I didn’t win but Kris included the pattern I chose with the hexie flowers she sent me.  I am overwhelmed with her generosity and can’t wait to start my “Harvest Home” pattern.  Kris, thanks so much.

I also received a nice surprise from my sister from “My Sister Made Me do It” yesterday.  Well, I did moan and groan and whine until Ida made me this beautiful paper-pieced house just like our ranch house.  Here’s the picture of our ranch house in the Texas Hill Country.

AND, here’s the block that Ida made for me of our little house.

I want to put my hexie flowers all around it and create a landscape wall hanging of some sort.  I’ve been playing with this all morning.  (That’s probably how I lost the first copy of my blog that I was writing out since I've been playing with my house block and hexagons all morning.…)  Thanks, Ida.  I'm loving it!

I’ve also gotten involved sewing hexathons.   I showed you one previously and have two more to show you.  I completed these on our recent road trip back to El Paso.

Don't forget about my giveaway along with many others who are participating in the Quilt Gallery's  "Celebrate Back-to-School Days Quilters' Blog Hop.”  It ends on September 3rd. Just look for the logo on everyone's blog.  I have it posted on the left side of my blog also.
