Favorite Day of the Week - One Flower Wednesday!

Encouraging words of the day:

“...stand and see the salvation of the Lord...” - (II Chronicles 20:17, NAS)

Notice that today’s verse doesn’t say, “Keep running until you see the salvation of the Lord.”  It doesn’t say, “Bury your head in the sand until God delivers you.”  It doesn’t say, “Worry all night and try to figure things out until a miracle takes place.”  No, God wants us to stand strong, set our faces like a flint, and fight the good fight of faith. And the good news is you don’t have to do it in your own strength! God is on your side.  He’s equipped you with His supernatural power to overcome every obstacle.

It’s  One Flower Wednesday!  Yay!  I can’t believe that this has become one of my favorite sewing days.  I just love these little hexie flowers, but I say that each week so here goes:

We’re getting ready to go on a road trip to the ranch so that will give me six hours of hand-sewing time.  I’ve done a lot of prep work for “My Jane” so that and hexie flowers will keep my hands busy.  First we’ll be going to green, rainy New Mexico and then on to drought-plagued south Texas.

Speaking of  “My Jane” :  Here is block D-13.  This block was paper-pieced and so easy.  You can see how “Plain Jane” it looks, nothing to it.  It was nice to have a relaxing block.

D-13

Here’s the Farmer’s Wife block #10 – Bowtie.  It was also pretty easy to paper-piece

FW 10 – Bowtie

Hexie Flowers Received

Encouraging words of the day:

Continuing with my favorite Psalm 91

¹⁴ The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
 ¹⁵ When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
¹⁶ I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.”– Psalm 91 NLT

Had a great weekend with my brother visiting.  I feel bad saying that I had a wonderful weekend since so many suffered a bad weekend due to my namesake hurricane, Irene.  Prayers to all who have had to deal with Hurricane Irene.  Although the terrible drought in Texas continues, it is good to know that the part of Texas where we live does not have to deal with weather-related problems other than the heat and drought.  Admittedly, that is bad but we don’t have tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes etc. in this part of west Texas.  The worst we have is sand storms in the spring.

I belong to the "Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap" and received these beautiful hexie flowers from Kris in Missouri.  Thanks, Kris.  They're gorgeous and will look beautiful in my garden.   I love the colors you chose.  I'm happy.

I don't know why this white box shows up on my blog.  Have to figure that out sometime...

Continuing with  “My Jane” :  Here is block I-4.  This block was paper-pieced and appliquéd.  I’m happy with the way it turned out (just barely crooked so I’m getting better).

I-4

Here’s the Farmer’s Wife block #8 – Bouquet.  These are all coming out like a mirror image and I’m fine with that.  This block turned out okay but I have a hard time wrapping my mind around how to layout the fabric to get it oriented correctly and I’m not looking too closely at how I sewed it together.  Here it is:

FW 9 - Box

Giveaways I’ve found:

"Adventures of a Cross-stitch Drama Queen" is giving away a fat quarter bundle of Promenade in blue. – ends September 2^nd.

“Meemaw Loves To Quilt” is having a giveaway.  You could win a copy of American Patchwork, true stories from quilters. – ends August 31.

That is all.

1-Flower Wednesday, Jane F1 and FW 9

Encouraging words of the day:

Continuing with my favorite Psalm 91

¹¹ For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
¹² They will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
 ¹³ You will trample upon lions and cobras;
you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!. – Psalm 91 NLT

It’s One Flower Wednesday!   I love this day and sewing up hexie flowers.

This is Post #92 for me.  I started blogging on October 4^th, a year ago so I have a Blogiversary coming up.  That means my 100^th post and my Blogiversary will be at about the same time so I’m working on a giveaway for my blog followers soon.

The saga of  “My Jane” continues.  I love it but not  “My Farmer’s Daughter“  and I don’t know why.   I know, I know I keep saying that.  I hate to quit something once I start so I may be one of those that has “The Farmer’s Wife” as a life-long project.  Here’s “My Jane”  F-1.

F-1

Here’s the Farmer’s Wife block I sewed upside down and backwards and then unsewed and resewed it wrong again,  took apart again and finally got this:

FW 9 - Box

Giveaways I’ve found:

"Love Affair With My Brother" is giving away a jelly roll. – ends August 29^th.

“Never Enough Stash” is having a giveaway of a chart, several skeins of floss,  and “some other really cool stuff."  - ends August 23^rd.

Man, I’m boring today.

That is all.

My Jane E6 and a Trip to Ruidoso, New Mexico

Encouraging words of the day:

Continuing with my favorite Psalm 91:

⁹ If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
 ¹⁰ no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.

. – Psalm 91 NLT

We spent the weekend in the mountains of New Mexico.  How wonderful to be in cooler weather.  It actually rained while we were in Ruidoso and it had been a long time since I’d been in rain since Texas has been so dry all summer.  It had also been a long time since I felt cold – what a great feeling.

Look what I found for $24 at an estate sale!  It is full of thread, only about 12 old spools.  The rest are new.  The jar is also interesting although I bought it because of the thread.  It’s a huge Mason jar.  It says “Patent, Nov. 30, 1858” but I’m sure it’s a replica.  There’s an eagle with 4 stars under it and 3 above it on the other side.  It’s 20 inches tall and 30 inches in diameter and almost full of spooled thread.

The Penny Haren Applique blocks are done.  Here are all 25 of them.  Now to decide how I’m going to put them together.

“My Jane” block E-6.  I don’t know why I enjoy “My Jane” so much more than “My Farmer’s Daughter-“ ummm “Wife” so I don’t have an FW to show you.

E-6

This was easy paper-piecing and applique.

Also working on sleeping jams for my 4 grandsons so that’s been keeping me busy.

Giveaways I’ve found:

"It's So Kiki" is giving away a jelly roll. – ends August 29^th.

"just one more stitch" is giving away a Fat Quarter Bundle. – ends August 28^th.

That is all.

My Jane G13 and FW 7

Encouraging words of the day:

Continuing with my favorite Psalm 91

⁵ Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
⁶ Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
⁷ Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
 ⁸ Just open your eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished. – Psalm 91 NLT

Ok, “My Jane” is updated.  I’ve done 44 blocks to date and here is G-13.  This one was fun to make and actually turned out pretty good.  It looks crooked in the photo but it really isn’t.  I don’t know why it came out that way.  Right……

G-13

“My Farmer’s Wife” block..  Working on that…  Sewed block #7 and did a terrible jog.  It came out backwards which is fine, like a mirror image but it also came out SO crooked.  I thought this was going to be easier than "My Jane" but I'm actually doing a better job on Jane.  I'm not doing FW-7 over.  I'm keeping it so I can see how much I improve as I go along.

Farmer's Wife Block 7 - Birds in the Air

These birds are definitely flying crooked.

Also working on sleeping jams for my 4 grandsons so that’s been keeping me busy.

Giveaways I’ve found:

"Green Fairy Quilts" is giving away a Fat Quarter Bundle with 38 fat quarters in it, a Jelly Roll and a Layer Cake. – end date not listed.

"p.s. i quilt" is giving away a fat quarter bundle. – ends August 22^nd.

"Jackie's Art Quilts" is having a giveaway of a fat quarter bundle. – ends August 26^th.

That is all.
