Blogtoberfest Day 16 and Good Hunting

Encouraging Words of the Day:

My daughter is back from her hunting trip so we've been busy all day just "doing stuff" so I almost forgot about my Blogtoberfest post. Thanks to my sister for reminding me. My daughter had a successful hunt in Canada. Here's her photo:

So I got my post for Day 16 of Blogtoberfest just under the wire. Thanks for the reminder, Ida. Done!

That is all.

Blogtoberfest Day 15 and Hexathon

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. ~ James 1:19, NLT

What?  California is beautiful but lookwhat gas is selling for.  And this is one of the cheaper gas stations.  I've seen some as high as $4.69 per gallon.  This sign caught my attention because of the "Thank heaven" part.  I don't think so.

It's Day 15 of Blogtoberfest!

I sewed up another hexie for the Hexathon.  Here's #10.  I like how this one looks like a box and a hexagon.

That is all.

Day 14 of Blogtoberfest and Beautiful California Weather

Encouraging Words of the Day:

And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. ~ Colossians 3:15, NLT

It was a quiet Sunday full of California sunshine. We took our grandson to a local park called Oso Park and had our McDonald's lunch there along with feeding the ducks.

And, it's Day 14 of Blogtoberfest.

Yesterday we went by the doctor's office to pick up some allergy pills and I saw this beautiful quilt hanging in the waiting room. Each state is made from a fabric depicting something about the state. Texas fabric is oil wells and cowboys, Kansas is corn fields, New Mexico is chiles, and so forth. The picture as usual does not do it justice. What a wonderful idea someone had.

That is all.

Day 13 of Blogtoberfest and Candy 2.5 FabricSwap

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.~ Psalm 37:7, NLT

Day 13 of Blogtoberfest

It seems like there's always something going on in Blogland. I've mentioned that I'm "trying" to make a Postage Stamp Quilt where all the squares are different. Well here is another swap I'm joining in an effort to get all sorts of different squares. It's called the "I Want Candy Fabric Swap" and entails trading 2.5 squares with 5 or more partners. Click on this link for more information.

It's a beautiful day in Californai. Now to get ready for a football game that's going on at 1:00 pm. It's our turn to take the post-game drinks for the boys and we need to get our boy suited-up so for now,

that is all.

Day 12 of Blogtoberfest and Traveling Picstitch Bloghop

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Day 12 of Blogtoberfest

While we were in Clovis, California, just outside of Fresno, we continued to drive around the area and out into the country. I took a couple of beautiful photos. I think I'll use one of them in the Travelling PicStitch Bloghop which I'm going to join. It sounds like fun, all about using new fabric and paper-piecing, both of which I love. Go to the link above to read all about it and to join-up. Here's what that is all about:

Take a photo to start with. Somewhere great.
Here's mine. I love the rock formations

Here's a close-up of those interesting rocks.

http://www.quokkaquilts.blogspot.com.au/p/the-travelling-picstitch-bloghop.html1)
2) Create a palette from the colours in the photo. (You can do this by eye or you can use something like Degrave's Color Palette Generator or http://www.play-crafts.com/blog/palette-builder/ - there are a number on the web -or Adobe Ideas for Ipad.)

I created a palette for both the first photo and the close-up, that's why there are two columns.

3) Pick a selection of fabrics which match the photo palette (name it if you like).

I kind of combined what I liked best from both and ended up with this.

I'm calling mine "Clovis Rocks," makes it sound like Clovis comes alive when it's actually a quiet little town.

4) Choose an English paper pieced block and sew it in those fabrics.

I'm going to use these fabrics to make one of my hexathons. I need to decide on which yet.

5) Write a post or flickr post it,

Day 11 of Blogtoberfest and visit to Clovis LQS

Encouraging Words of the Day:

It's Day 11 of Blogtoberfest and I'm still here...

Today I finally made it to the LQS in Clovis, CA. I just love this little shop. It doesn't look much from the outside

but the inside is full of wonderful quilting items. Just like the rest of you, I don't need any more fabric but there were a few fat quarters calling my name and my sister's name.

And I also "need" some 1930s fabric for my 1/2-inch hexie flowers.

I also came upon the difficult-to-find (for me anyway) clamshell paper shapes so I can start a clamshell quilt soon. I bought a package of 1/2-inch hexie papers as well.

So, it was a wonderful day. Now to get ready for football practice...

That is all.

One Flower Wednesday and Day 10 of Blogtoberfest

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. ~ Psalm 103:2, NLT

Day 10 of Blogtoberfest

“One Flower Wednesday” and time to show off my little flowers. I've been making 1/2 hexie flowers. Those are really portable and I managed to hang on to all the pieces this time. Here are the ones I've made.

Click on “One Flower Wednesday” to see flowers others have made.

I'm writing this on my iPad at our grandson's football practice. My daughter and son-in-law left to go hunting in Canada for a few days so we feel like parents all over again. Get our grandson up and ready for school, eat your breakfast, hurry up, pick him up after school, do homework and get ready for practice. Here's my husband trying to help our 10-year old grandson get into his shoulder pads.
