Company Coming and My Jane RS4 and TR5

Encouraging Words of the Day

Still no luck hunting. We continue to see doe. We did see a buck last evening but it was too dark to shoot. It seems like they are smart enough to know not to come out in daylight. I guess there are so many people shooting at them during hunting season, that they've learned to hide. My sister is coming to Rocksprings next week along with my nephew. It will be so great if he was able to shoot a buck or a feral hog. My husband and I are all excited to have them. My husband and nephew will enjoy just shooting at targets, much less hunting together so it's all good.

"My Jane" had been thinking I had abandoned her but I've finally gotten back to my sewing machine and completed two of "My Jane" side blocks. These blocks are no harder to sew than the square center blocks but for some reason, I'd rather sew the center blocks. I guess I'd better get over that feeling since there are 52 of those side blocks. The good think is that "Aunt Reen" mixes them in occassionally with the center blocks on her blog "13 Months of Jane." Needless to say, I will not complete "My Jane" in 13 months. I started sewing "My Jane" on my own in May 2011 and then found "Aunt Reen's Tutorial" in May 2012 so I had a head start on Aunt Reen's goal of finishing by June 2013 but I'm already about 30 blocks behind on that goal. Oh well, that gives me a life-time goal to try for. So saying, here are TR-5 and RS-4.

Now I'm off to do some more sewing since it's looking like a gloomy, windy day here. Good day to stay indoors and sew so...

that is all.

Back to Sewing and One Flower Wednesday

Encouraging Words of the Day:

The Lord will work out his plans for my life-for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me. ~ Psalm 138:8, NLT

Well, after blogging every day for a month on Blogtoberfest, I really took a break but now I'm back for "One Flower Wednesday." I try to never miss that. I have some more little flowers I sewed on the trip to the ranch in the Texas Hill Country. I'm trying to make these from 1930s or feedsack-type fabrics so I do have a plan of sorts. It will take a lot of these little 1/2-inch flowers to make anything....

Click here to see more hexie flowers on Karen's "Journey of a Quilter."

We've been busy hunting for whitetail deer and/or feral hogs but have not had any luck. On the opening weekend, it's always busy around here A lot of our friends from the nearby ranches arrive to hunt and it is non-stop visiting, eating, drinking, and hunting. Our youngest son was up for the weekend and, of course, I loved that. Now things have quieted down since most of the hunters have left and it's just my husband and I. That gives me a chance to get back to my sewing and I do have a long list of projects since I haven't had a chance to sew for ages it seems. I've been working on a mug rug for a swap. This needs to go to Australia so I'm hoping it gets there well before Christmas since it has a Christmas theme. Here's what I made.

Then I need to get back to "My Jane" which has been neglected for almost two months. I have a long list of UFOs that need my attention so I'll have fun sewing while we're at the ranch. Happy sewing to all of you.

That is all.

One Flower Wednesday on Day 31 of Blogtoberfest

Encouraging Words of the Day:

It's "One Flower Wednesday" and I didn't forget it this week. Here are three of the flowers I sewed on the trip to Tucson. I managed to hang on to all the pieces this time. One of them looks like a make-do flower but is not. That big blue flower amongst all the little ones in the red hexie flower was part of the fabric I used for that flower.

"Blogtoberfest Charms Giveaway." This is the last day to enter for a chance to win 42 charms cut from my stash.

Blogtoberfest is done with this post. Yay! Today we also leave Arizona to return to El Paso but look what we saw outside our hotel this morning. That's a javelina. It looks like a hog but is actually a member of the equine family. They are quite tame around Tucson and we've seen them often.

That is all.

Husband's Birthday on Day 30 of Blogtoberfest

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Today is my husband's birthday and we're enjoying the celebration with our "Old Fart Friends." Here's a photo of us at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.

Today we're off to San Xavier Mission and Tubac. I'm not sure what all that entails but will know by the end of the day.

Oh, here's a hexie I finished for the hexathon on the drive to Tucson. Here's Hexathon #5.

I also sewed several hexie flowers on the drive out but I'll wait until One-Flower Wednesday to show you those.

Beautiful Quilt at OFOF on Day 29 of Blogtoberfest

Encouraging Words of the Day:

We're still hanging out in Tucson with our OFOF group. My sister Ida gave me the idea for what to post on this 29th day of Blogtoberfest. I mentioned before that our OFOF group had met in El Paso before. When my husband and I hosted the group we had everything planned for the meeting. The hotel reservations had been made, side trips planned etc. About a week before the meeting we received terrible news about a tragic accident in our family and were unable to remain in El Paso and host the event. Four of our good friends offered to take over hosting duties and the group was able to meet in El Paso that year without us. We had planned the decorations in a southwest theme with tablecloths in a bandana pattern and barbed wire decorations etc. Favors for the participants were different colored bandanas. Long story short, one of our friends is a quilter. She gathered up the bandana tablecloths and retrieved the bandana favors from everyone and designed a gorgeous quilt for us from the bandanas. She embroidered the participants names onto the bandanas and incorporated photos that were taken during the event. We brought it to Tucson so I took photos of it on our bed in the hotel. Here it is:

Today we're off to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Old Tucson so for now...

that is all.

OFOF Get-Together on Day 28 of Blogtoberfest

Encouraging Words of the Day:

We enjoyed the 5-hour drive and arrived safely in Tucson, Arizona for our OFOF Meeting. Some of you have asked what type of meeting this is. It is an annual get-together of retirees who previously worked together. All of the couples know each other well and each year we meet in a different state hosted by a couple residing in that state. This year, Arizona was chosen. Previous years have been spent in El Paso and San Antonio, Texas; Maryland, Alabama, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Tennessee.... Oh, and the name we've chosen for the group is OFOF which stands for "Old Farts and Old Friends." We have a fabulous time together reliving the "olden days" and talking about what we do now-a-days. We also play cards and eat and drink too much along with some sight seeing in the chosen state. So, dear "Blog Friends," that's where I am right now and so I'll leave you with this photo I took this morning outside our hotel room.

Before I go, I'd better remind you about my follower giveaway which ends on the 31st. I'm giving away a charm pack of several 5-inch charms from my stash. It's composed of 42 scrappy charms and will be for one of my followers. Just click on this link to enter:
