Fires and Hexie Flowers

Encouraging Words of the Day:

The above words are quite true for us. There was a big fire in the area around our ranch a week ago.

We weren't there but our neighbors were. They kept us up-to-date on the fire. It came within a mile of their ranch and they're about a mile from us. In total, 16,000 acres were burned, including 4 structures which "they" said were not permanent homes. That still doesn't sound good since our ranch house is not our permanent home either. Please add the people who lost property to your prayers. The fire is now out and no longer a danger.

 

On to happier topics, here are a few hexie flowers I sewed on our trip to the ranch. (We're here now and all is well on our property.)

Hexies With Anthea

Encouraging Words of the Day:

 

Hello All! I'm trying to make the Linky Party at Anthea's "Piece Yourself Together." I didn't get to the linky on time the last time. It seems like Australia is a day ahead of Texas....

So saying, here are some of my usual 1/2-inch hexie flowers, my lifetime project:

I also found an interesting project at the "sewcanshe" blog.

I actually made 6 potholders but my sister, Ida, dropped by and I gave her one. The edges look kind of crooked in the photo but they are a product of the photographer, not the seamstress. These were a fast project and actually worked best when I followed the instructions. I sewed a binding on the blue one and that was somewhat tedious. Then I decided to read the instructions and see how the tutorial said to do it. What was done in the tutorial was sewing around the lining and front all around the edges, leaving an opening for turning etc and then quilting. Much easier.

Now I'm off to see if I make the linky this time so...

Hexies in My Real Life

Encouraging Words of the Day:

I'm back in my "Real Life" in El Paso, Texas now, back from the beach and a marvelous vacation in Virginia, USA. I'm madly typing my blog post trying to make the last day of Anthea's "Piece Yourself Together" linky at "Hibiscus Stitches."

When I got back to El Paso, I also had these beautiful flowers waiting for me in my mailbox.

These gorgeous flowers are from my swap partner in the "Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap." They came from Karyli in Idaho, USA. Thanks so much. They're perfect!

Hexie Flowers on the Beach

Encouraging Words of the Day:

This Tuesday finds me "Piecing Myself Together" at the beach.

 

Oh yes.

But remembering it is Anthea's "Piece Yourself Together" linky time, I'm late because I think it's Wednesday but I also think the linky is still available at "Hibiscus Stitches."

Piece Yourself Together Tuesday

I've been diligently working on my "Ranch House" hexie wallhanging even though it may not look llike it.

It was getting hard to sew hexies onto it so I took out some of the little papers as Needled Mom and Althea suggested and it's definitely working better.

Also completed are these flowers for my swap partner at the "Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap." She requested flowers in bright blue with white centers.

And finally, the saga of 1/2-inch hexies continues. I now have 350 completed so I'm about half way there. Here are three of them. I love those little elephants.

Wednesday Post for a Tuesday Linky

When it's Tuesday in Texas, USA, it's not Tuesday in Australia. I think. Anyway, Anthea hosts an EPP linky for us on her Tuesday in Australia. Here is is already Wednesday in Texas and I'm barely now posting so I can hook-up to Anthea's linky.

This part is not that much fun as it's hard so sew all these hexies together but it's getting there.
