Progress on Long Time Gone Blocks

Hello All!  Still working on "Long Time Gone" blocks.  My eyes are crossing with all the half-square triangles I'm sewing.  My sister from "My Sister Made Me Do It... blog found a fast and easy way to make half-square triangles BUT too late for me since I'd already cut out 10,000 squares to make them the old-fashioned way.  Click here to see Ida's tutorial for making them the fast way.

Anyway, I finally finished the "Square in a Square Stars."  Notice the side-ways house block in the middle....

And Half-Square Triangle Block #2. 

After those were done, I did not look for any errors since "what you see is what you get."  I'm going with them.

The Crosses of the UK Blocks were much easier to make.

So, I am making progress.  Now I just need to complete the Flying Geese Blocks, the 60 Degree Triangles, and the Half-Square Triangle Block #3. I'm working on the flying geese and they are currently flying all over the place in my sewing area.

WOOFA Progress

While I was trying to decide which of my UFOs to start working on to link up to WOOFA, my sister Ida from "My Sister Made Me Do It" decided to start a new UFO.  I had given her a copy of "Long Time Gone Quilt" by Jen Kingwell in 2018, the year I started mine.  I worked on my "Long Time Gone" quilt from time to time.  Well, Ida decided to start hers and sibling rivalry being what it is, I had to get back to mine before she had more of the blocks done than I did.     

Long story longer...I had to get to the cutting table and get busy.  It seems like it always takes longer to cut out the pieces than it does to sew them together.  

Then I started with the Bow Tie Block. It looks easy enough to sew up and since I know what I'm doing,  after all, I've been sewing since I was 14 (many many years ago) so I proceeded to sew the block "all wrong."  My bow ties were all going to be white surrounded with the fabrics that were supposed to make up the bow ties. Back to the cutting table....

Then, still working on the premise that "I know what I'm doing..." I proceeded to sew one block correctly and the other WRONG AGAIN!

Finally, here are the finished 2 blocks required.

While I was on a roll, I decided to do one more block since Ida is fast catching up. I sewed the Jacob's Ladder block and did it all correctly the first time.

New WOOFA Challenge Member

 Wow, it seems like in order to keep blogging, I need some sort of motivation. I was doing real good when I was madly sewing pincushions for the recent Pincushion Parade but after that I quit.  My sister from "My Sister Made Me Do It" has again motivated me by telling me about the  WOOFA Challenge which entails working on or finishing a UFO. I may kill two birds withone stone: actually finish a UFO and get back to blogging.

New project: Making Masks

Well, the Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade is over. It was so much fun making so many pincushions but at least now I can stop making pincushions LOL.  To check the winners, go to this link.

So, since I'm not making pincushions, I'm making masks. A few of my friends needed one and I have plenty of fabric so here are a few I've made.

Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade Continues

I found some more pincushions. I’ve been on a pincushion-making spree lately and forgot one. The embroidery was done on my embroidery machine. I went on a cleaning-up-my-sewing-area spree and I had left it with the machine and forgot to include it in the parade. Also found this small pincushion in my cleaning spree.

Then, my sister went to check on my El Paso home since, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m away from home and sheltering-in-place at our ranch. She took these pictures of pincushions I’ve made in El Paso… Little did she know,  I actually made two of them for her birthday which isn't until August. Hmmmmm.

And she also took pictures of my pincushion shelf, pincushions I’ve posted in past Parades.

Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade Starts Today

Here is my entry for the Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade. My parade is led by Ida Hog. Yes, my sister Ida made this adorable hog pincushion for me so she bears Ida’s name. Here is Ida Hog, in all her splendor, leading the Parade of 25 Pincushions.

We have been at our ranch in the Hill Country of Texas since the Coronavirus lockup began. You can see the beautiful view we always have behind the parade. I have a limited fabric stash and a limited number of pincushions. Actually have 2 generic tomato pincushions I picked up at the thrift shop, another that I made from hexies some time ago, 2 others, and a mini pincushion a friend made for me.

Then, when I realized the Pincushion Parade was coming up, I panicked, ordered a Kindle copy of a pincushion book and quickly sewed these up.  Not bad, just useful pincushions but definitely not exciting. I was going for quantity rather than quality.

I really like the House Pincushion so I made one for my daughter, my sewing niece, and each of my sisters.

Finally calmed down and made a few that were somewhat prettier….

And a small and a large biscornu pincushion and, what I think, is a gorgeous Dresden plate pincushion.

I think my sister Lynette was thinking I sounded like I needed pincushions and she sent me a gorgeous tomato pincushion and a mini crocheted flower pincushion which I think are fabulous.

And the star of my parade is Ida Hog which my sister Ida made for me.

More Pincushions to add to my Pincushion Parade

My sisters and I are so excited about the Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade which will be from June 8-20. The thing is, making pincushions is addictive. Every time I make one, I say it will be the last one.  Well...I decided to try to make a smaller biscornu pincushion from a paper-pieced star.  Here it is:

Then my sister from "...and the little sister follows" got hooked on sewing pincushions and sent these to me to add to my Pincushion Parade.  I love the tomato pincushion. The yellow fabric is gorgeous.  And the little pincushion is one she made from crochet.  It's a little flower.  And look at the cute card she made and included.  Thanks, Lynette. These will definitely be in my Pincushion Parade.
